1998-2004 In Review Campus Planning began the update by stepping back and reviewing the changes to the Emory Campus since the 1998 Campus plan was completed. The first step was to compile a list of constructed projects, not only of buildings but also renovations. The original 7 guiding principles were then reviewed and modified to reflect current standards. An eighth principle has been added relating to Emory's environmental Initiative. The third step of the review was to detail the revisions to local zoning, codes, and ordinances. DeKalb County has dramatically changed the zoning ordinance in the past 5 years, which is discussed in detail in the presentation. The next step was to review the impact of Emory's adoption of the LEED™ rating system. The LEED™ program was started at Emory University with the construction of the Whitehead Building as our pilot project. LEED™ showed a whole new vision to designing and constructing buildings for Emory University and since this inception we have made LEED™ the guiding principle for all of our future projects. The team gathered data from some of Emory's peer institutions to compare and contrast current planning theories being applied on other campuses. We finished this phase of the study with a "lessons learned" from the 1998 plan. This involved a series of interviews with various groups on campus and off campus to determine the community's perception of the successes and failures of the implementation of the 1998 Campus Plan. The complete study in compiled in the following PDF-format files below. This study is available both by individual section, or in it's entirety (Please note: these file sizes are quite large). 1998-2004 In Review (Full Document): 1998-2004 In Review (By Section): Appendix: |
